Option #1: Acquire In-House Nanoemulsion Production Capability

You can become set up to produce nanoemulsions at bench scale fairly easily. To do this, you will need: (i) a sonicator, micro-fluidized bed or homogenizer, (ii) some standard lab equipment such as beakers, hot plates, syringes, and (iii) a surfactant system.

Approximate Cost:

  • µGOO: $649.50 for 500 gram starter pack. This sampler size/starter pack allows you to process 83.3 grams of oil input, which equates to 83,300 mg of active ingredient.

Option #2: Wholesale Purchase of Loaded Nanoemulsion

For those who simply want to market and distribute finished product or who don’t have aspirations to become a toll processor, the purchase of already-loaded (infused) nanoemulsion is a quick and easy option.

Sourcing loaded nanoemulsion from a third-party processor allows you to focus on manufacturing your desired end product. Nanoemulsions can easily be integrated into the manufacture of a final product by infusing each unit (e.g. each beverage bottle) individually or by adding the nanoemulsion to an aqueous phase in bulk.

Depending on your processing partner, it may be possible to select your own input (crude extract, oil) and have it converted into nanoemulsion. This option will be of particular interest to those who have access to unique feedstock strains or extract compositions. A good nanoemulsion formulation will entirely preserve the unique characteristics of the input material: what you put in will be what you get out.
