We at Axiomm Technologies specialize in assisting our customers quickly and easily acquire the ability to produce infused products that incorporate a truly best-in-class, globally recognized nanoemulsion solution (sometimes referred to as a “water-soluble” or “water-compatible” technology). Nanoemulsions are an exciting and new consumer product technology that dramatically enhance the quality and performance of infused functional products by:
- enhancing the human body’s absorption of the oil-based active ingredient,
- allowing the consumer to rapidly feel the effects of the active ingredient, and
- achieving complete homogeneity of the active ingredient throughout a product.
Here we quickly run through the options available to those seeking to manufacture, distribute and market either infused end products or wholesale nanoemulsion (e.g. tolling operations).
Option #1: Acquire In-House Nanoemulsion Production Capability
You can become set up to produce nanoemulsions at bench scale fairly easily. To do this, you will need: (i) a sonicator, micro-fluidized bed or homogenizer, (ii) some standard lab equipment such as beakers, hot plates, syringes, and (iii) a surfactant system.
Axiomm recommends the use of a sonicator for most applications. Qsonica’s Q700 Sonicator is a great entry-level unit. Axiomm also supplies a surfactant system in the form of our µGOO. You can see how straightforward it is to make a nanoemulsion using these in the video shown here.Axiomm recommends the use of a sonicator for most applications. - Q700 Sonicator: $5,450 + any desired accessories
- µGOO: $649.50 for 500 gram starter pack. This sampler size/starter pack allows you to process 83.3 grams of oil input, which equates to 83,300 mg of active ingredient.
- Lower production cost
- Rapid prototyping
- Maximum control over production process
- Initial capital expenditure required
- Longer lead time
- Difficulty in scaling production
Option #2: Wholesale Purchase of Loaded Nanoemulsion
For those who simply want to market and distribute finished product or who don’t have aspirations to become a toll processor, the purchase of already-loaded (infused) nanoemulsion is a quick and easy option.
Sourcing loaded nanoemulsion from a third-party processor allows you to focus on manufacturing your desired end product. Nanoemulsions can easily be integrated into the manufacture of a final product by infusing each unit (e.g. each beverage bottle) individually or by adding the nanoemulsion to an aqueous phase in bulk.
Depending on your processing partner, it may be possible to select your own input (crude extract, oil) and have it converted into nanoemulsion. This option will be of particular interest to those who have access to unique feedstock strains or extract compositions. A good nanoemulsion formulation will entirely preserve the unique characteristics of the input material: what you put in will be what you get out.
Approximate Cost: Varies depending on quantity ordered and supplier. Please contact email@example.com for further details on this option.
- No need for facility modification or capital outlay
- Rapid integration
- No production scaling issues
- Higher per unit cost
- Less control over production process
